How to Get Rid Of Rodents in the Home

There are several ways to get rid of rodents in the home, some are natural and others include the use of chemicals. Rodents can be dangerous when not controlled, homeowners risk contracting diseases from them. The sooner you eliminate them the better. The following are ways to get rid of rodents in the home.

Mouse Traps

The wooden mouse traps do a clean job in killing mice. The only downside is that you have to lay a dozen traps just to trap one mouse. It is a good idea to lay different types of traps; glue traps, bait traps, multiple-capture live traps, and wooden traps.

This is important because some rodents are smart, they might try to avoid a certain type of trap. You can use any food you have at home or choose mouse-approved favorites like; bacon, oatmeal, peanut butter, chocolate, hazelnut spread, and dried fruits. Make sure you replace the bait after every two days.

Close Up the Entry Points

Rodents usually have paths which they access to get into homes. Eliminating the entry points has proven to be an effective way to stop rodents’ manifestation. Identify all the pathways and carefully close up the access. Rodents tend to squeeze themselves into smaller spaces therefore identifying the access might be difficult. All you have to do is to notice spaces that can fit a pencil into a hole or opening, a rodent can definitely get through it.

Ensure you seal unused utility pipes and cracks in the foundation and walls. Avoid using sealants that can easily be gnawed by rodents such as rubber, plastic, or wood. For the doors and windows, make sure it creates a seal against the threshold when closed.

Proper Sanitation

The garbage place should be away from the house and securing it is the best option. Having garbage all over the place can attract rodents. While cleaning, rub off any residue and cramps.

Vacuum the floors from every corner and wipe the counters. Do not forget to do decluttering once in a while. Rodents like crowded spaces where they can easily hide. Clear out your garage, if mice infest your garage they tend to live under the car hood where the engine is warm. Cut off shrubbery outside your house and keep stacking firewood 20 feet away from the house.

The Cat Solution

Cats are not only pets but they hunt mice. Cats get bothered so much when there are rodents around. They’re so busy hunting until they capture the rodent. Many farm owners use cats to control the mouse population. This is the best way to catch rodents without putting in so much effort.
