Description:	Life is an adventure in this wonderfully illustrated, warm story about a little girl who has the imagination to make an ordinary trip to the corner store an extraordinary experience. Shau-yu must go to buy eggs so her dad can make dinner and as she walks to the corner she notices the cat's shadow and the dog napping peacefully. When she holds a blue marble up to her eye, everything looks blue and she says, "I am a little fish, swimming in the big, blue sea." After she finds an old pair of glasses and puts them on, the world is blurry. The shopkeeper enters into her game, pretending the girl is an adult. Shau-yu picks some flowers sparkling with droplets of water and wakes the dog on her way home where she tells her father of her busy day and gives him the eggs so he can make fried rice. The illustrations are done with paper cutting, collage and line drawing and the muted tones strike just the right note for this simple, but not simplistic story, winner of a Taiwanese Hsin Yi Picture Book Award. 2003 --Carolyn Mott Ford
