For collections still depending on older, biased treatments such as Herbert Wernecke's Christmas Customs around the World (Westminster, 1979) or Christmas Everywhere (Macrae-Smith, 1962; o.p.), edited by Elizabeth Sechrist, this will be a welcome addition. It goes beyond the easy-reader level of Emily Kelley's Christmas Around the World (Carolrhoda, 1986) or the scattershot trivia that be gleaned from Pamela Kelley's Christmas Celebration (Ideals Children's Bks, 1992). Many readers, and librarians, will only hope for another title next year, with 12 more countries!
