I Love You All Day Long

"Do I have to go?" Owen asks.
"Yes," his mother replies.

But his mother sends him off with more than just his lunch. She promises that no matter where he is and no matter what he's doing -- whether Owen is making a new friend or spilling his juice -- she'll love him all day long, from the moment they part until the moment Owen is back in her arms again.

Francesca Rusackas and Priscilla Burris's book is a reassuring tale of how the enduring love of a parent stays with a child whether they are together or apart.

Mama Always Comes Home

Mama Bird and Mama Cat and even teensy-weensy Mama Mole must leave their little ones from time to time; but in the end, mamas always come home.

Mommy's Best Kisses

There are many ways to say I love you to a child, and now way is sweeter than with a kiss. Every mother knows small hands, a plump tummy, tiny fingers, and wiggling toes all beg to be kissed time and time again.

Margaret Anastas's loving rhyme and Susan Winter's gentle illustrations of animal mamas and their adorable babies will make this a family favorite.

Before I Was Your Mother
To Katie, it seems as if her mother has always been her mother, with her grocery lists, her purse full of bills to pay, and her boring, sensible shoes. But when her mother reveals that she once was a girl who bossed her little brother, wore firefighter boots to bed, and dreamed grand ballerina dreams, Katie realizes that she and her mother might be alike after all.
This humorous, warmhearted blend of past and present celebrates the special love mothers and daughters share.

On the Day You Were Born
Inspired by Debra Frasier's enormously popular On the Day You Were Born, this charming photo journal invites families to celebrate the arrival of their loved one into the natural world. A star-spangled blue sky, crossed by a swath of sunshine yellow with gold birds, introduces the reader to "the very first day you arrived." Baby's picture and name go right in the middle of all the cheery yellow. Turn the page: "You were born on the round planet Earth. Was it day, or was it night?" is printed with another space for a picture and a line to write the date and time of birth against the backdrop of more starry sky with that old blue and green globe plopped in the middle and a figure of a child frolicking across the ocean. On another page, the jubilant child dances across a beach: "On the day you were born waves washed the beaches clean for your footprints. How little were your fingers? How tiny were your toes?"

By adding eight photographs and filling in a few details, parents can create a very special journal for their child, rejoicing together in all the natural wonders of the universe. Here is an ideal gift for the new parents with a vibrant connection to nature. --Emilie Coulter

Oh My Baby, Little One
It's always hard for Baby Bird and his mama to say good-bye on their way to school and work in the morning. But Mama finds a lilting, lyrical way of showing how her love is with her child all the time--and his love is with her, too.
But even when I'm far away,
this love I have will stay.
and wrap itself around you
every minute of the day.
Warm, reassuring feelings emanate from this lovely picture book. Mama Bird tells her child how her love slips inside his lunch box, sits upon his shoulder when he sings a happy song, and snuggles on his pillow while he naps. Jane Dyer, illustrator of the bestselling Time for Bed, creates positively touchable watercolors of a pudgy-cheeked preschooler bird and his working mom. Hints of hearts nestle playfully on the pages: on the blackboard under the letter H, and sewn onto his pillowcase. Oh My Baby, Little One will resonate deeply for moms and kids alike, and may make daily separations just a little bit easier.
So blow a kiss and wave good-bye--
my baby, don't you cry.
This love is always with you,
like the sun is with the sky.

The Mommy Book
Although some mommies drive motorcycles, and others drive minivans; some mommies go fishing while others go shopping, all mommies want their children to be who they are. That's Todd Parr's story, and he's sticking with it (as reinforced by his It's Okay to Be Different, This Is My Hair, and lots more funky, friendly picture books). Using his trademark style of brightly colored stick figures, with bold outlined smiley faces for heads, Parr portrays a world of diversity and peace in his simple, esteem-boosting titles. Moms are celebrated here (naturally, you'll find dads in The Daddy Book), in all their traditional, eccentric, athletic, hip, nurturing glory. Each spread shows moms doing their thing: dancing moms opposite swimming moms, short-hair moms next to big-hair moms, and work-at-home moms across from work-in-big-buildings moms. The refrain is that all moms love their kids: "All mommies like to hang out with you!" "All mommies like to watch you sleep!" The Mommy Book is reassuring and fun. (Ages 3 to 6) --Emilie Coulter

I Love My Mommy Because...

My Mama Had A Dancing Heart (Orchard Paperbacks)
I have a five year old blind daughter who loves this book. We read it every night at bedtime, sometimes 2 or 3 times before she falls asleep. She cant see the pictures but she loves the combination of words. "With a grin and a giggle, a hug and a whistle, we'd slap our knees and mama would say, Bless the world, It feel like a tip-tapping, song-singing, finger-snapping kind of day. Let's Celebrate!" And so we did. I love this book as much as she does, And I love to hear her recite it to me word for word. If your thinking about buying this book, think no more. You wont be dissapointed with My Mama Had A Dancing Heart. Reviewer: Kary Thomas
