The Reading Nook

At The Reading Nook, we have taken the guesswork out of selecting the best children's books by doing the research for you.  Here you will find high quality children's literature recommended by reading experts.  As a beginning reader, your child is embarking on a more independent journey into the wonderful world of books.  Encouraging his reading skills and continuing to read aloud to him are two of the most important things you can do for your first grade child.  Children's books provide background knowledge and promote vocabulary development which are two essential skills necessary for reading success.  Following is a list of suggested books developmentally appropriate for your little one.

How does one get better at reading?  "The more you read, the more you know; and the more you know, the smarter you grow" (Jim Trelease, The Read-Aloud Handbook, Penguin Books 2001).
