By definition, the Civil War was a military conflict between the United States of America (the Union) and the Confederate States of America. But as adults, we all know that it was much more than that. Sometimes called the War Between the States, it took many lives while restoring life to millions of black slaves. It destroyed a great deal of property and opened wounds that still have not closed. The Civil War is an important part of our history that should be shared with our children. The Reading Nook has a suggested list of books that will inspire and prompt mesmerizing conversations about this remarkable historical event.
